Black Woman Open Your Eyes: Sister Souljah

I feel hurt when I observe my community and the depression of today's economy. This live taping with Sister Souljah was held back in the 90s during wake of the Rodney King verdict being "not guilty", which end up in very chaotic rioting within the Black Communities of Los Angeles, California. Sister Souljah is a renowed author with books such as "Coldest Winter", "Midnight and the meaning of Love", "No Disrespect", and "Midnight: A Gangsta Love Story"

Tyler Perry addresses Kim Karsdashian Rumors

(I am an avid Reader of Tyler Perry's site and so I give to you personally of my email of what Tyler had to say>>)

Hey Candace,
I think many of you know that this is a very difficult time of year for me, so what I try to do is make sure that I’m working during this time. All I wanted to do was shoot a great film and try to keep my mind off the holiday grief that I have been experiencing for the past two years. I could not have imagined I’d be getting all these emails about Kim Kardashian. I HAVE SEEN THEM!! YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD!! …LOL. Now, may I say something? Can a brother get a word in?….LOL. Y’all gave me a new movie title, Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman Cause You Hired Kim Kardashian, Don’t Make Me Take Off My Earrings and Boycott Yo A**.”…LOL.  Some of my ladies are upset. Ok, all jokes aside, can I have my say? Will you at least here me out?

I was in a Mexican restaurant and the cutest little old woman stopped me and said, “I want to talk to you about KAR-DAT- CHA-NEM.” I said, “Ma’am?” She said, “What is wrong with you putting her in the lead role of your movie?” By the time I explained to her that she was not in the lead role and why I thought she should be in “The Marriage Counselor”, she said, “Oh, I see your point and I can’t wait to see the movie.” So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to share with you what I said to her then maybe you’ll see why I wanted her in the film.

This movie is about a young lady named Judith (Jurnee Smolett), who grew up in the countryside of Virginia in a trailer park. She was raised in the church by her mother Sarah (Ella Joyce). Judith married her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) and had the perfect life until she graduated college and went to work in the big city.  After college, all she wanted to do was be a marriage counselor, but the only job she could find was working for a matchmaker named Janice (Vanessa Williams). Janice has several employees that work for her, including a woman named Ava (Kim Kardashian). Ava is constantly trying to influence Judith on everything from her shoes to her hair. Judith meets a man at work named Harley (Robbie Jones). Harley challenges everything in her life from her marriage to her husband to her faith. Meanwhile, Brice (Lance Gross), Judith’s husband works at a pharmacy owned by Mrs. Waco (Renee Taylor). Brice has just hired a coworker named Melinda (Brandy), who has some major demons that she is running from. In the end, the choices that both of these young women have made come crashing down on them and their lives will never be the same.  I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin it for you.

After I finished writing this movie, I sat back and re-read it. Half way through my read, the gravity of what I had written hit me. I knew that this message was not only for my age group, but for all audiences, especially the youth.  ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH!!  YOUNG FOLKS NEED TO SEE THIS!!!   And not just the young people that follow me, but the young people that are following other young people, as well.  I wanted a younger cast, that’s why I put Jurnee in the lead and invited Lance Gross, Robbie Jones and Brandy.  About two months ago, long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. I said to one of my producers, “who else is out there that young people are looking up to?” One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Whether you’re aware of it or not, to be honest with you I wasn’t, millions of young people adore her and are following her every move. If one of those young people see this film and find the strength to live a better life and not go through what these characters went through in this movie, then we have all done what I feel I’m being led to do here. I hope you understand. I really do!

And lastly, because I believe that my films speak from the inside out, why wouldn’t Kim Kardashian be invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God?  What is wrong with that?? (visit www.TylerPerry.com)

VV bRown: Black British Sensation

The beautiful and talented young singer VV Brown is holding her own in the sea of UK hits such as Adele, Estelle, Duffy, and late great Amy Winehouse .  The UK darling dazzled herself on to United States in October 2009 with the gold hit "Shark in the Water". Since her come up, the model/songwriter has been touring and playing her productive hand; creating different sounds to her music. I am enlightened to hear new creative artistry. Brown, to me personally sounds child friendly and subliminally political in her tone of music.... Funny isnt it? VV Brown's personality doesn't seem too interested by the politics of the industry. VV Brown isn't one to be "boxed" in to any particular genre. In Her latest video "Children"  she fiddles with the infamous sound of the ice cream truck music, we as children were so fond. A special guest feature rapper "Chiddy Bang" Keeps ya ears tuned in as he drops a few bars to tweak this playful beat. Stay focus on the gifted VV Brown... she making head waves.... The Qweens approve!

BIG KRIT: MONEY ON THE FLOOR

Storytelling in Japanese Art via The MET museum of Art

Exhibition dates:  November 19, 2011– May 6, 2012
Location:              The Sackler Wing Galleries for the Arts of Japan, 2nd Floor
Press viewing:      Monday, November 28, 10:00 a.m. - noon

Japan has enjoyed a long tradition of storytelling through paintings and illustrated books, which continues today in the popular art of manga (comic books for children and adults).  Showcasing more than 90 vibrant works drawn from the New York Public Library and other local collections, as well as works from the Metropolitan’s own holdings, Storytelling in Japanese Art will trace the rich history of illustrated narratives that thrived in the medieval and early modern periods of Japan.  The focus of the exhibition will be on some 20 rare illustrated handscrolls called emaki.  Highlights among them will be: an exceptional fragment of the set of handscrolls nicknamed Frolicking Animals, whose parent scrolls in Japan have the designation of National Treasure and are often referred to as ancestors of modern manga; The Tale of the Drunken Demon, capturing a dramatic and gory scene of a warrior chopping off a demon’s head; and the Illustrated Legend of Kitano Shrine, a set of five handscrolls that will be displayed simultaneously for the first time.  Dating from the 12th to the 19th century, the exhibition will also include works in other formats: handscroll, fan, book, and screen.(as told by MET staff)

Gibborgreen "follow Me"

The kids that are talented nowadays are nonstop, so it took me back a bit to my days of Bow Wow, Sammy and Romeo when I saw this music video of young thirteen year old singer "Gibbor green". He hails out of Miami, Florida and has a huge buzz in the spicy city of Miami. He is just as cute as he can be. As told by his website (www.gibborgreen.com), "Gibbor has sung and recorded in the presence of Bootsy Collins, Melanie Fiona, Aretha Franklin, Marcus Miller, Jeff Robinson and many others". My daughter hasn't gotten a jest of him yet but I enjoy his music as a parent. Enjoy....

Nesian Mystik "Sun goes Down"

I came upon this video as I surfed the web and was so intrigued... so I thought I'd share with my audience.... Nesian Mystik music just makes you want to dance. The group is of Polynesian background and based out of New Zealand. They have debuted high on the music charts across seas (4x Pacific Music Awards, 11 x Top 10 singles (The most in New Zealand history) etc.)
Their genre of music is a mixture of rnb, hiphop, soul and pop. Nesian Mystik also runs their own record label named "Arch Dynasty" I was boppin my head and singin along as I viewed the video upon a week ago. I do hope you all enjoy and spread the word on these talented men.

Katra Lounge& Art Gallery Hopping

Last night the beautiful aspiring fashion designer Alexus , and myself took the streets of Manhattan and decided to be a lil crazy! We had a blast last night at our first event of the night.  I love Hypnotic Harmonie. (Very sweet) mixed with patron too! I had sweet and strong in my glass. I really wanted to see Estelle tho, I think we all did. It so weird how people are you would think that just because you see them all the time that they would finally say something to you. Shiiiitttt I would. And I did to a few familiar faces that I have seen here and there. I mean like why not? I'm here now an going to be in this industry for a while! Lol you might as well smile and shake my hand and get with the process! Once Alexis and I finished drinking we headed to the bathroom and discovered yet another party was going on downstairs. OH MY!! I looked and her and led the way WE SO CRASHED somebody birthday party lol. Candace would have had fun they were playing nothing but Soca music (her favorite). Katra Lounge is small but not small. At one point I thought we were in a maze until I found the exit sign. The night was young and just as we were walking out across the street was an art exhibit going on. How lovely. Alexis and I walked right in and joined the other onlookers. The art was rather lovely and different.  The artist of the night was Pia Dehne. The theme: Vanishing ACT.  The space its self was nice, CHARLES BANK GALLERY.  All this on bowery st!
