NYC African American Woman Higher Death Rate?
I am a mother myself (Candace), so this story has perhaps motivated me to bring it to light amongst my peers. It is tragic to lose a child during birth and even more horiffic for a family to lose the mother during child birth with child still in womb. Recently "WeNews" reported of the high death rate in which the Black Community (New York City) is affected the most during the child birth process. It saddens me to speak on this subject, but here we go... New York City was the specific place of study for this issue of the high volume of African American child birth death rate. Already I know from experience of living in NYC, that it is a stressful place to live in due to high rents&bills but who would of thought high death rates among Black Women who are pregnant too. Studies conducted in NYC showed that: "In the U.S., African American women die two to four times more often during pregnancy and childbirth than white women"(WomensNews.org) Below you will see a brief interview conducted with Dr. Jo Ivey Bufford, President of the New York Academy of Medicine.
